Why Run Now?

Two years ago, I was in a severe car accident that left me without transportation. At the time, I didn’t have health insurance, and because I couldn’t show up to work the very next day, my employer, CVS, penalized me, ultimately resulting in me losing my job. What stayed with me was how quickly one unexpected event could affect everything at once. My health. My job. My housing. Suddenly, I didn't know how I was going to make it through to next month. My experience isn’t unique. Too many Tucsonans are working one, two, or sometimes three jobs and are still one accident, medical bill, or rent increase away from crisis. At the same time, we’re watching powerful corporations make it even harder to get ahead. Beale Infrastructure pushed Project Blue forward despite enormous community opposition, TEP continues asking working families to shoulder higher utility costs, and corporate landlords and hedge funds are buying up homes, raising rents, and making housing increasingly unaffordable. That’s why I’m stepping up to run. We need elected officials that understand what it means to live paycheck to paycheck. We need young leadership willing to speak out and fight for everyday Tucsonans when powerful interests put profits first. Join me in building a Tucson that puts people first.
